I am trying to connect 7 computers in a workgroup and am having some problems.

here goes

i have connected four and they are all working fine
The other three just dont seem to connect to the workgroup.
All 7 are connected to a d-Link hub

each one is able to ping its own ip address but none of the others.
there is no firewall software installed.
i am only able to see the computer account of the pc that im at in my
network places.
I am unable to ping the ip addresses of the pcs that arent working from the
pcs that are working and vice-versa.
I have tried the network setup wizard to no avail

I have tried putting all three pcs into another workgroup but they still
only appear in that workgroup on there own

Any help would be much appreciated and sorry for the long post

Have you enabled the sharing? To confirm that, do "net share" command in the problem computers. post back with the results.

If i type net share it tells me that the remote ipc and the all users shared
documents folder is shared.

Yes they are all in the same workgroup (mshome), all have the same subnet
mask and have consecutive ip addresses.

Also when I type net view at the command prompt it finds the computers but i
am unable to view them.

You have a problem with a bundled firewall, firewall component, or security
setting.
# What version and edition of Windows is this? What SP level?
# What antivirus product (vendor, product name, support level) is on each
computer?
# What network card is in each computer?

Do you have Norton on all computers? Did you follow complete instructions from
Symantec?

Norton is only on two of the pcs so i dont think it is that as that has been
completely disabled on the two machines but i cant even get the machine that
hasn`t got norton on it to connect.

There must be some simple setting that im missing but i cant seem to find it.

So what are the differences between the good 4 computers and the problem 3
computers? How are the good 4 alike? How are the problem 3 alike? What are
the differences? Hoping that the problems with the 3 are related, you should be
able to start there, and at least find common symptoms. And work from there.

But don't keep writing about "disabling" Norton as a diagnostic - it's NOT.
Keep browsing thru this forum, and look for other mentions of Norton / Symantec
in problems like yours. And do some reading.
