Missing CD Drive

I use a Gateway laptop, and just now, when I was burning a CD, an error
message came up, indicating that the drive could not continue writing the
disc. When I looked for the drive in My Computer, it was gone completely. It
is absent there, as well as in Device Manager, and anywhere else I try to
look for it. The drive is still powered and tries to read new discs when they
are put in, but the computer doesn't recognize it. I haven't been able to
find anything in the BIOS that could fix it, and I don't want to try to
figure out how to open up my laptop to check the connection unless I have to.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Restore Missing CD Drive

[[The popular CDGONE patch. CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device
Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and
Registry references for some code modules aren’t removed successfully. This
patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third
party package still required will then have to be re-installed. ]]
