i go to start,all programs,accessories,system tools,and NO BACK UP
OPTION,where did it go and what do i do to get it back, running os xp
home,sevice pack 2

make a shortcut to this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System
Tools

then use this line for the target

%SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe

You icon target should be

%SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe

Good Luck

Perhaps you didn't read your docs - it isn't part of XP Home
installations. You may install it from your XP disk, but it will only
be half-functional (no ASR) and it doesn't burn CD's. IMHO it's an
inconvenient tool if one just has a one HD system - YMMV. One way to
use it fruitfully would be to write a differential backup file to your
HD & then burn it to a CD or DVD - *if* it doesn't exceed the filesize
you can burn (it won't concatenate with normal CD burning software).

WTC - I too am running Windows XP Home Edition and do not have that option, will that also work for me? Where do I type in the target line? I am getting a new computer, larger HD, and would like to take everything from this HD, and restore it on the new one....which will also be running Windows XP....will it need to be the same Installation disk for it to back up properly?

NTBackup is not installed with XP Home, but it's on the XP CD. Unless you
have an OEM CD.
