Missing "All Programs" entry on Start menu

I am missing some items on the Start menu. First of all
the word "start" is missing. Only the green button is
shown. Then, when I left click on it, my start menu
opens, but the "All Programs" entry is missing, so I
can't start up programs unless they are on my desktop
already or are in my start menu. When I want to logoff or
switch users, the colored buttons are there, but the
words as to what they do are missing.

I used Remote Assistance with this PC and read that there
are sometimes problems with your appearances if you
disconnect improperly. Don't know if I did so or not.

Nick, you could try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc
/scannow Have the WinXP CD in the
cdrom drive.

Startup Folder on the Desktop

Go to Start/Run/Regedit. Navigate to each key. In the right pane, scroll
down to Startup and make sure they read accordingly:

User Shell
%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\documents and setting\[User Name]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
