OK, here goes ....... I want to Install XP Pro on a system having one 512Mb
and one 60Gb HDD. My objective is to run the operating system from the 512M
Drive, basically just to boot the system, all Data, Temp Files, programs, etc
etc are to be placed on the 60Gb HDD. How do I do this ? I know XP ( read it
but have not tried it ) can be booted from 6 - 1.4M Floppy disks, so how do i
boot from one 512M HDD.

You are mistaken. 6 floppy disks are required to start the WinXP
installation process. They are totally insufficient to start WinXP itself.
You can, of course, boot WinXP with a single WinXP boot diskette,
but this diskette holds only the three boot files, nothing else.

I suggest you apply a reality check before continuing with your project.
Ask your friendly computer dealer for the cost of a 40 GByte hard
disk (which is probably the smallest you can buy these days), then
ask yourself why you would want to spend many hours in attempting
to do something which I believe cannot be done. AFAIK, you need
at the very least 3 GBytes to install WinXP. Your 512 MByte hard is
desperately undersized. Put it back where it belongs: Into the junk box.

You are correct ... I was mistaken, at least I mis-spoke ( typed ) about the
6 Floppy Boot, thank you for your input, however, it is not helpful at all, I
would not under take a task such as this if it were not a "Requirement"
............ And as far as Throwing a nice Flash Disk .......... I think Not.
If there is a way to boot just the basic operating system from the flash
drive, then that would be sufficient.

The minimum system requirements are already documented at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/sysreqs.mspx

Maybe if you explained what you are trying to do then we may be able to help
you better.

Maybe you should be considering using Windows XP Embedded ?

I like these vague statements. In your original post you wrote
". . . run the operating system from the 512M Drive". Now it turns out
that this is not a hard disk at all but a flash disk! Speaking about
withholding essential information . . .

In other words: If you want replies to be helpful then please
supply all relevant information. For your situation, a Bart
Windows PE disk (www.bootdisk.com) might suffice.

Pegasus,

Please do not refer to the Bart disks as "Windows PE" or "Bart Windows PE" -
They are not real Windows PE and this is misleading.

What label would you give them?

I would refer to it as the author refers to it:

Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE).

Quoting directly from the autor's web page:
"To avoid any confusion, the bootable media's generated by PE Builder should
be called by it's nickname "BartPE"!"
