Minimizing Windows

Until my last automatic XP update, I was able to have some windows sized so
that certain icons on my desktop showed, Outlook being one of them. So
whenever I click on Outlook from the taskbar, it would open over the desktop.
So whenever Outlook is open the desktop is always showing. Now when I click
on Outlook, it opens on top of whatever I was working on, i.e. a Word
document. What could have changed?

I don't think this answers my question. My problem has nothing to do with
Internet Explorer.

I still don't see how it applies, so maybe I'm not explaining my problem well
enough. I'll try to make it more clear. Here's an example of the situation
as it was since I got my computer:

1. Outlook is open but minimized.
2. I am working on a Word document
3. I need to send an email, so I click on Outlook on the taskbar.
4. I have Outlook sized so it does not take up the entire screen, so when I
click
Outlook, my desktop shows.

Since I did an update yesterday, #4 works this way:

When I click on Outlook to send the email, the word document is showing
behind Outlook, not my desktop.

It appears that there is some setting that when I click on a program in the
task bar, it was automatically minimizing anything open allowing the desktop
to show behind the program.

OK, I getcha now. I dunno but seeing as they're both Office applications,
perhaps microsoft.public.officeupdate newsgroup might be a better place to
ask.

You may have inadvertently changed some display settings. Right-click on an
empty (blank) area of your taskbar: If "Cascade Windows" or either of the
"Tile" options are checked, uncheck them.

They are not checked and never have been. Is there some sort of setting that
could lock a window over the desktop, so whenever you open that window, the
desktop is the default background?

Not that I know of, no.

OK, let's back up a tad: Are you running WinXP SP2? When was your last
"automatic XP update"?

I am running XP Professional Version 2002 SP2. I'm not sure when my last XP
update was; it automatically updates and I haven't really paid attention to
what was updating.

Sorry, I have no other ideas. As a workaround, I suggest that you minimize
all other open windows to the taskbar manually if and when this happens.
