Hello all, I use an application called GMAX. It is a tool for creating 3D
animation. I use it with a script called CNCToolkit to generate toolpaths
for 4 axis machining of complicated airfoils. If I work with CAD files
larger than about 2MB it can take hours or even days running at 100% CPU to
do the calculations. The computer works normally when GMAX is running but is
only slightly slower. I get the same results on three different computers.
One with 1800 AMD W98SE. One with 2200 AMD XPPro. One with 3000 X64 AMD
X64Pro. All have 1gig of ram. Pagefile set at 4000MB that never gets used.
If I run the program in safe mode it is noticeably faster. Sometimes when
running under the normal windows environment it says "Not Responding". I
just cancel and it eventually finishes. Are there timers or other flags in
the operating system that make the not responding decision? Are these
configurable? Is there away to run XPpro in a minimal environment so that I
don't have to run in safe mode? Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to
configure my machine for better performance? Such as you would for gaming.
Thanks JP
