Hello,

I'm going to migrate Office 97 to Office 2003. But I need
to do this without losing any settings. Like the
dictionary, autocorrection, dot files.
So I was wondering if there was a migration tool or
somethings else. To do it real easy. It's for at least 500
pc's. So if any one has an good answer.

Thanks in advance

You are too impatient. Your question is not simple. I know that my
experience on one computer was a flawless upgrade. I don't have a clue
if that applies to your situation; certainly going for 500 is a
different situation.

For sure there will be problems--some with root-cause the upgrade, and
some others where the upgrade is a red herring. 500 people with needs
for Office is a lot of people. And you don't say if you have
expectations of doing these upgrades manually or via some scripts, e.g.
via SMS. And you don't say if you've done any testing in your own test
facilties (recommend you do).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It's gonna be a clean installation on a Windows XP
machine. I need a good way to copy the .dot file,
dictionary and the autocorrection files. Cause those are
all Office 97 files.
I'm gonna install it manually and then make an MSI file
of it.

Nonsense! See the articles I referenced in my earlier post.

One point - a normal install or upgrade will not touch personalisations. The
files you mention should all be retained intact when upgrading.

A pro??
Well if he can do it then so can I.
So no pro.
But aren't there any migration tools or something for
these probs??

I've download the autocorrect.zip from one of the links.
Now I only need to let it happen automatic. So use need to
make a few changes.
I'm now looking for a way to backup the dictionary and
restore it.

The problems are how to keep the setting of the
dictionary, autocorrection and the dot files.
If your migrating from office 97 to office 2003. There are
500 pc. So can't do it all by hand.

Doesn't the information previously provided by Suzzanne and Graham help?

It is common for large installations of Microsoft applications to use
Microsoft's SMS to manage desktop upgrades like this. May be
over-the-top for you to consider, but you may wish to research these
products. Without using products like SMS (there are others, I believe,
but I am not familiar with them anymore), touching 500 machine like this
would be a manual activity (by you or by the user's themselves). It
would be a major project to implement SMS or equivalent.

As AA mentioned, considering hiring a professional to do all this for
you; or of you wish to do yourself, then seek assistance from a
professional to give you some options you can do yourself; ranging from
visiting/touching each of the 500 machines to implementing SMS.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Not really usefull. Cause it's my project. So I can't hire
a professional. And I believe we aren't using SMS here.
So.... that's not an option either.
But I've got the autocorrection working now. Now i've got
some other questions. Maybe you can anwser.

1. In office 2003 you can automaticly insert dictonairy's.
But they aren't immediatly used. (You first need to turn
the checkbox on). Can you change this so they are
immediatly used??

2. Can you copy the normal.dot file just over the other
normal.dot?? Or do you need to change anything??
