This is a licensing issue.
I have 2 users that went out and bought their PCs (for
work) at a place where they install Windows XP Home
edition (OEM) which was a bad mistake. Can someone at
Microsoft tell me if I can purchase and upgrade to XP Pro
(OEM) in order to correct the the wrong version of XP.

More details on my question: Is it OK to proceed in this
migration path. Since the purchase of XP Home was a
mistake, can I just pay for an OEM version of XP Pro and
migrate the workstations and return the "mistaken"
licences. Obviously these were unexperienced users and
they did not know that we have a Domain. Since they have
the home edition their workstations cannot participate in
the domain's security. That is my main reason for
migrating. Thanks for your help and time.

An OEM version of Windows XP cannot perform
an upgrade over an existing Windows XP Home Edition
installation. It must be installed "clean" on a reformatted
drive or partition. In order to upgrade over XP Home,
you'll need to purchase "Retail Upgrade" versions of
Windows XP Professional.

1. Purchase a conventional "Retail Version" of Windows XP Professional.
2. Uninstall your antivirus program.
3. Perform a backup of your important documents and files to a CD.
4. Disconnect all hardware peripheral devices, except the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
5. While running Windows XP Home, insert the Windows XP Pro CD in the drive and select
the default "Upgrade" setup option. [Do not select "New Installation"]
6. Visit the Windows Update site to download all the critical updates.
