Migrating away from Exchange Server

Yay! I got a job!

This means I will be moving from the university I am a graduate student at
to another university.

I have been running Outlook 2003 on my current school's exchange server. I
thought this was a convenient way to have access to my calendar wherever I
might be.

At some point soon, I will lose access to my current school's electronic
resources.

Is there a way to migrate all my information to my home computer off of the
exchange server, and simply store things locally from now on?

thanks!

add a pst (file, new, outlook data file) and set your default delivery
location to the pst - the default folders should automatically be populated
with the contents of the same folders online. You'll need to move any
folders you created by dragging and dropping them to the pst.

Thanks for your help.

I created the pst - how do I set my default delivery to it?

tools, email accounts... view or change existing accounts and select the pst
from the drop down.

Ok - now I have a local root folder. However, the only way to get my contacts
and calendar in this folder was to copy and paste. Now I have empty
"Calendar" and "Contacts" locally, and copies of server folders labelled
"Calendar1" and "Contacts1". Also, the originals have the delete option
greyed out. Can I fix this nasty situation?

I tried what you said - now activesync doesn't work. How do I set the copied
calendar and contact list to be the default for activesync?

Did you restart outlook after changing the default delivery location? A
dialog should have told you to restart for it to take affect - but if
something is keeping it loaded (activesync sometimes does) it wasn't closed
properly. Use task manger to verify it was closed before opening.

Active Sync works with the default - so if it's not working with the new
folders, it's because you don't have it as the default.

you'll need to switch to a table view (by category works well) and select
all the items and drag them to the folders then delete the other folders.
