HI
I want to migrate from my exsisting Small Business Server 4.5.
Rather upgrading I want to install the Server 2003 in a new box.
I thought about following is to
1) install 2003 server on new box
2) install AD
3) use ADMT to get user profiles across
But I have few questions
1) I like to keep the domain name Same so that the users the do not
see experience any change. But is that possible to install AD with
same Domain name for the destination and Source DC.
2) Does ADMT take care of shutting down the old DC or do I need to do
anything to turn off the DC on the old box. I do not want two DC'c
running.
3) Lastly Am I missing anything ?

Thanks
Jishnu

Hi Jishnu,

I did some research and found the following information when migrate from
SBS4.5 to SBS2003

Migration Requirements
=======================
a)Internal domain names for servers must be different
b)Server names (NETBIOS) must be different
c)The source server will be decommissioned, so services such as DHCP will
be offered by new server
d)Migration uses ADMT and Exchange Migration Wizard (which means manual
export of mailbox rules, Admin mailbox and public folders)
e)Custom settings on new server have to be setup by hand
f)DNS must be running on both systems during migration

For step by step information go through the migration document at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=16415

Thanks,

Thank you so much Haribabu, that does clear some doubts that I had of
having two running Dc's at the same time.
But It leads to anothe question if the domain Name needs to be changed
then, the individual user will not be able to log on to Using :
Username, Paswword and Old domain combination: which creates a
profileon local pC's to which things like Microsoft outlook is
attched.
Do you or anyone else know the problem to my above issue.
Thanks
