MIDI Files won't play

My computer absolutely refuses to play MIDI files. I've
tried every audio player I have and none of them work.
They claim to be playing the file, but no sound comes
out. No other file types are affected. If I save the midi
files as something else, such as .mov, they will play
fine.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Go to run,type:DXDIAG
Theres a test for running MIDI,if it doesnt run the
error code(s) will give you info on why.

I am having the exact same problem as Adam since installing a new hard
drive. Diagnostics indicate no associated MIDI are working. PLEASE-anyone
with a solution???

I actually solved this problem myself. In my case, I
opened the control panel and chose "change the sound
scheme." Under the audio tab, change the "MIDI music
playback" to "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" and look for
any muted or low volumes. Even though that wasn't the
device I was using, unmuting it solved the problem.
