micrphone

I have the HP pavilion 526x. It appears not to have a
microphone for using with messenger. I purchased a
microphone. It has the pink end which I connected to back
of computer. I took the microphone back to place of
purchase and pluged it in the pink- and it worked fine.
What could my problem be????

Check the soundcard's settings and be sure that...

The mic isn't muted
The volume is turned up
and under RECORD settings (if any), the mic channel is enabled

This varies per sound card. With this Creative SoundBlaster card these
settings can be accessed with a double-click on the speaker icon at the
bottom-right of the screen. To access RECORD, click
OPTIONS|PROPERTIES|RECORDING button
