Microsoft works tasks/history dissappeared

under [file] ...only option is *exit*
there is no history ...no files
no way to open a new blank document!
what happened and how can it be fixed?
I have WORD and Microsoft Office for some time now, but
now all of the sudden MSW tasks are blank!
