No version of Windows has ever come with MS Word. You need to buy it
separately. If you had it installed when you upgraded, do a search for
winword.exe. If you find it, see if it will run. If not, reinstall from
the CD.

Was it there before you upgraded from the previous OS? If so, simply
reinstall it from the original installation media.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

If all you need to do is view Office files, there are free viewers
available from Microsoft:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/results.aspx?qu=viewers&av=DCT000

If you need to create and/or edit Office files:

1) Go to store/shop that sells computer software.

2) Purchase the Microsoft Office suite that contains the applications
you need.

3) Return home.

4) Insert installation CD in PC's CD drive and follow the on-screen
prompts and instructions to install application and desired additional
features.

For the budget-minded (who also don't need all of Word's or Excel's
specific features), there's the free, open source OpenOffice:

That would be because it is not boxed with the MS operating systems.
You'll have to fork out more money or download OpenOffice.org for free.
It's a complete office suite highly compatible with MS Office - reads and
writes all the MS Office file formats and more.

Word is not part of Vista and never has been part of any Windows edition.

If you mean *WordPad* (a very simple word processor that is a Windows
accessory program) it might be under "Accessories" on the start menu.

Otherwise, you have to purchase MS Word, or MS Office suite.

I upgraded to windows vista and I was informed that Microsoft Word came with
it... At least Microsoft Office. I can't afford to purchase a new disk for
microsoft office just so I can work on school work. Where can I get a good
MSoffice download for free?

This is not Microsoft Word, but rather a free alternative product that will
likely do everything you need. There is no free version of Microsoft Word,
at least not legally or safely (illegal sites are very sketchy, and you may
get a "free" virus instead of what you're looking for). Microsoft Word, or
any other of the Office products, has never been included with an operating
system. They were frequently bundled by many manufacturers, which often lead
to the misconception that they were.

Word and the other MS Office applications have never been included with any
version of Windows. Sometimes they are bundled with a new computer by the
manufacturer but they are separate from Windows. They must be purchased.
Word can be purcahsed as a stand-alone of as part of the Office Suite.

You can't. But you can download OpenOffice.org.

You were misinformed. Neither Windows XP, nor any other version of
Windows, has ever included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or any
other significant application software. Such programs have to be
bought, either by themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.

At least Microsoft Office.

Also not true.

I can't afford to purchase a new disk for
microsoft office just so I can work on school work. Where can I get a good
MSoffice download for free?

There is nowhere that you can download Microsoft Office for free
legally. If you're looking for help on pirating Microsoft software,
you've come to the wrong place. Asking for help in pirating Microsoft
software in a Microsoft newsgroup is not the smartest thing to do.

You might want to ask at your school if they have good deals on a
student version of Microsoft Office. Alternatively there are other
compatible Office suites you might want to consider, such as the
inexpensive WordPerfect Office or StarOffice, or the free OpenOffice.

Bear in mind, if you choose of those compatible products that
"compatibility" is a relative term. The compatibility can be pretty
good, but it is never perfect.

Someone lied to you. Never, ever take any computer related advice from
that individual again.

Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.

I can't afford to purchase a new disk for
microsoft office just so I can work on school work. Where can I get a good
MSoffice download for free?

There is no legitimate free source for downloading Microsoft Office.

For the budget-minded (who also don't need most of Word's or
Excel's specific features), there's the free, open source OpenOffice:

AFAIAA Open office 2.4 will do EVERYTHING that Word and Excel 2002 will do -
they only diverge when you start talking about sharepoint and things like
that in the newer versions....
