You can either google "invititation card software", or by trying to
download pirated copies of Word or Word Perfect, risk getting invited to
a court hearing.

you don't, except from a bootleg site. these are both commercial
products. the developers have this romantic notion that they
should be paid for their efforts and have a nasty habit of
coming after people who steal their work.

but, if you want something free that does the same, why not
google for open office and download that?

Both Word and WordPerfect are commercial programs for sale. They are not
legally downloadable for free anywhere. If you're looking for help in
pirating software, doing so in a Microsoft-hosted newsgroup, using what
appears to be your real E-mail address, is not the swiftest thing to do.

You may want to try the freeware OpenOffice, which you *can* download for
free. Google for it.

Try: http://www.avery.com/index.html

If one of their card stocks suits your purpose, they offer a free limited
version of Design Pro software. Compatible stock from other companies will
also work with this software.

You can't legitimately download any of those programs, free or otherwise.

1) Go to store/shop that sells computer software.

2) Purchase either Microsoft Word, a Microsoft Office suite (or the
Microsoft Works Suite) that contains it, or Corel's WordPerfect.
Although, to be frank, Publisher would probably be a better choice than
Word for such things as invitations.

3) Return home.

4) Insert installation CD in PC's CD drive and follow the on-screen
prompts and instructions to install application and desired additional
features.

#1 You don't need to say 'software programs". I don't know
of any programs that aren't software; nor do I know of any
software that isn't a program.

Say "software" or say "programs".

#2 If you want a cheap copy of MS Word, look on EBay for a
copy of Word '97 (Office '97 Pro or Office '97 Pro Small
Business Edition)

I got my copy for $5 at a Goodwill store. Folks will buy
those up at flea markets and then turn around and sell them
on EBay for a few bucks.

And my copies of Office Pro '97 and SBE were both still in
the shrink wrap.

Some company bought too many and finally got around to
"clearing the crap out of the store room."

Their loss, my gain.

Be sure when you're purchasing on EBay that it specifies
"brand new/never used." or you could get stuck with a copy
somebody already registered and got tired of.

Good luck!

Never heard of firmware? Your computer has no BIOS?

Say "software" or say "programs".

Why? Does the specific description involve too much detail for you?

A possibility, but -- if you're going to be so pedantic as to try to
lecture the OP on the nature of computer programs -- shouldn't you also
include the caveat that one must be very careful buying any software on
eBay, as eBay makes no prior effort to ensure that such sales are
legitimate; they react only when someone files a complaint. (And then
all that really happens is the seller of the pirated software returns
using a different alias, to continue selling illegitimate licenses.)

I got my copy for $5 at a Goodwill store. Folks will buy
those up at flea markets and then turn around and sell them
on EBay for a few bucks.

With very few of those people -- including Goodwill, who at least have
good intentions, making any significant effort to ensure that these
licenses are lagitimate.

And my copies of Office Pro '97 and SBE were both still in
the shrink wrap.

See? Office SBE, up until Office 2003, was available only as an OEM
product, and therefore could legitimately be sold *only* with a new
computer.

"brand new/never used." or you could get stuck with a copy

At last, a grain of good sense, although a seller's claims are not
necessarily true, and a "brand new/never used" condition is still no
guaranteed indication of a legitimate sale. (And no doubt there are a
few sellers who are so woefully uninformed that they don't know they're
not supposed to be reselling certain licenses.)
