I have a new computer and desperately need to install Microsoft Word for my children to complete their end of the year school projects. When I click on "Word" it tells me that I have to enter a 25 digit code located on the yellow sticker on the back of a CD case or on the "Certificate of Authenticity". I can't find either one. Word was already installed in my other computer and they are both Window's XP. Can you help?

Try the keyfinder on the old computer.

Normally, this information on the yellow/orange sticker on the CD. If
you can't find it ... who knows. If this copy of Word already installed
on another non-portable computer, then likely you can't install it a
second time anyway, per the license agreement you made with Microsoft.

Since you are in a rush ... download and use the free Open Office
(www.openoffice.org). My hunch is your kids can handle the change with
no bother and you will appreciate having this crisis disappear.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Did you get CDs with your computer? One of them may have the Word
installation, or in your computer's papers they might have the number.

Alternatively, you can contact the vendor and inform them of the
problem.

Good luck

If Word was pre-installed on your other computer, likely it is limited to
installation on that computer only.

If Word also came with your new computer you should have received a
Certificate of Authenticity packaged with the Word CD or with the Works
Suite CDs. If this is the case, call your computer OEM support for an
replacement key.

If you wish to purchase Word 2002, the least costly way is to purchase
Microsoft Works Suite {note Works Suite}.

If you wish to purchase Word 2003, the least costly way is to purchase
Microsoft Office 2003 Standard for Students and Teachers. This edition can
be installed on up to 3 family computers for non-commercial use by anyone in
the family.

Word is not part of Windows XP. If your new computer was suppose to
come with it, check with the supplier. If the disk you are trying to load
from was from your old computer, you may be out of luck. Word comes several
ways. It may be sold in a special version just for use on the machine it
was sold with.

You may need to buy a new copy for your new machine.
