microsoft Word won't open

I cannot open Microsoft word to get at my documents. Thescreen keeps saying
that it is "not responding"
I tried to do a system restore and there is an error messag saying "system
restore cannot be done"
any help on what is going on would be greatly appreciated. Brenda
 
Add/Remove app in control panel has an Office or Word entry, with a "Detect
and Repair" button
