I'm repairing my friends computer and i'm in the recovery
console. After installing the Microsoft start up disk's
(6) for repairing Windows XP it asks me Option: 1
D:\MiniNT or 2: C:\WINDOWS. I picked #2 and now it's
asking me for the Administrator password. I have no idea
what it may be and i'm sure my friend doesn't either.

Can anyone help out there. I would really appreciate any
help on this subject

Dale

You can reset the password using free floppy disks mentioned here, from the
FAQ:

http://securityadmin.info/faq.htm#password

I've very rarely been able to successfully fix Windows using the recovery
console. Usually reinstalling XP is preferable IMHO. If the problem is due
to a failing hard drive, then none of these will fix the problem, though it
could give you information to confirm or deny whether the hard drive is
physically failing and in need of replacement.

Also, note that unless you have previously changed the group policy option
to give yourself more permissions within the Recovery Console, you will find
yourself with very little you can actually see or do.
