Sometimes while surfing the internet a window pops up saying that a
pop-up ad has been blocked, it appears to be an MS program that blocks
theses ads. Is this the subject program or another MS offering? I
can't remember downloading MS Antispyware.

If you are using WXP SP2 it has a built in pop-up blocker. You can
disable it.

I am using XP/SP2, something I should have mentioned in my original
post. How can I disable the built in pop-up blocker?

Thanks

Hello,

For what reason would you want to disable a pop-up blocker? If you're going
to sites that tell you to, or do not allow you to download files - then you
sound the type that needs a virus and trojan killer!
Don't forget a firewall as your system is probably already infected.

I suspect he means he wants to disable the popup blocker popup.

:O)

Because the built in MS Pop Up blocker is good at things like blocking
links that open in a seperate window etc.

There are much better and much more configurable blockers available

I don't have SP2, but I think it is under the Tools menu.

Why on earth would you want to?

You can disable the pop-up blocker in XP-SP2 by going to the Internet
options, select Security tab, select the Internet Zone, check Custom level,
then scroll down to the settings for Use Pop-up Blocker. Repeat for each of
the zones.

Though why you would want to is beyond me.

I'm not sure if it came with IE6 or SP2 but does a narrow yellow bar open at
the top of the window whenever a pop is blocked? If so, click on the yellow
bar and you will get options to view the POP on a one time basis, disable
POPs on this site temporarily, permanently, etc. IMHO, it's a pretty good
setup with just the options you need to leave it running all the time.

It looks like I got my terms mixed up. What I'm seeing is a pop-up
blocker. Pop ups are not the same as spyware, right?

BTW, one way of blocking the XP/SP2 blocker (not the right thing to do
according to the members of this group) is to open Internet Explorer
and select Tools.

So I'll try MS AntiSpyWare Beta.
