Microsoft Upgrade Scam

Has anyone else been given the runaround by Microsoft when trying to use
their "free" upgrade after buying a qualifying version of XP?

The first time I submitted the online form and mailed in the required proof
of purchase it was returned with a non-sensical letter saying my hardware OEM
was responsible for supporting the software. After numerous attempts to
contact Microsoft and re-submitting scanned copies of the forms I gave up and
started over.

I re-registered for the upgrade and sent the proof of purchase again to to
the requested address. Now I have received an email saying they never
received the proof of purchase and are requesting me to send it to a
different address than they originally requested.

My reply to the Microsoft email bounced. I think this free upgrade offer is
an illegimate ripoff.

Well, the opportunity to get the free update ended March 30th. But, MS is
right, its the responsibility of the OEM to provide that free upgrade. Which
hardware OEM is this by the way?
