Microsoft search status

Dear NG,

I am not sure if this is the right NG for this question. Yesterday I put up
the Windows Desktop Search. It started to go though its
indexing and my computer took a hit on performance. After 24 hours it is
still indexing. That is not a problem, however, the status messages are a
tad confusing. At 9:00 AM the message box said it had indexed 79,018 items
so far. Two hours later the same status message told me that 74,931 items
had been indexed! What is this message trying to tell me? Where can I get
some deeper documentation on this feature?

I won't try installing it until I know that doing so is okay.

There must be a way of uninstalling it, such as via Add or Remove Programs.
