Sometimes I would rather take a beating rather than use ms web site.
Example

I opened Belarc Advisor and in the list of XP updates highlighted in red was
KB896358. It said "Reinstall". There is a place to check to get all
updates. I clicked and was taken to ms website. I found the place to
search and entered the number. There was hundreds of different numbers. I
found another search and entered the number. I got another list of 10 of 495
for KB896358 to choose from (all the same number). I found one that was a
security fix for XP. I down loaded it and when I tried to download it, I
got a message, " Update\Update.exe is not a valid win 32 application" I
found 2 other that listed for XP and were security updates. When I tried to
run them I got the same error.

Seems like every time I try to find something on ms website it is the same
run around. Sometimes makes me wonder why I do not go back to Win 98 or dos
..

Pardon my ranting, I just had to say something. I also installed Internet
Explorer 7 beta and it did not take long to delete it and go back to
Firefox. Thanks for listening.

It may have been easier for you to simply uninstall the hotfix via the
Add/Remove tool and then go to the Windows Update site for a fresh installation.

Why exactly, do you trust what Belarc Advisor said if your PC is working
perfectly?

Why rely on an external 3rd party program (Belarc) to advise you what
MS updates are available/required? That's what the MS update website
is for.

Also, selectively installing individual updates is not desirable -
quite often an update might require that a previous update already be
installed. The MS update website will manage this requirement for you.

Uninstall KB896358 from the Control Panel's Add/Remove tool, then either go to the Windows
Update site to reinstall it, or download the update directly from here:
