I really don't know anything about WSS. Is this a part of FP 2003 or an
addition to it? Is it aimed at developers, designers, large
corporations...what?

Even though I've read a lot information about it on MS's site I'm still too
dumb to comprhend. Will someone please shed some light? Thanks a bunch!

Nancy,

FP 03 has built in functionality to create / modify a
SharePoint Team Service website.

In order to create an STS you must have a host / server
running Win Server 03. Both STS and SPS are primarly
geared for corporate, business, and organization
intranets. You could use them as a front-end, but you
would need to do some modifications.

Here is a link to Runaware , which will allow you to
actually setup a demo STS site and review how it works.

The SharePoint Portal server is really aimed at the
corprate level.

Here is the SPS link:

Hope it helps

JDR,

First, thanks. I copied this from the second link when I arrived there: "You
are not authorized to view this page" so I guess I haven't been invited.

Seriously, what I do is design fairly common sites. Last year I did 14 for
various entities. I do it part-time because I enjoy it and I have another
full-time job.

Is WSS anything that I should investigate further? Can you think of a way it
might be useful to me? Thanks.

Hi Nancy,

I personally feel the STS is definitely worth looking at,
but the the market is really for organizations.

If you have designed sites, or planning to design sites
for organizations such as small business, schools,
churches, etc.., the STS is a great tool for
collaboration.

The "KEYWORD" here is collaboration. STS is designed for
interaction between members of an organization. If you
have a group that shares documents frequently,
callaborates daily and basically rely on real time
information, STS is definitely a consideration.

If you enjoy learning and checking out new technology, I
would highly recommend you take it for a test drive
and "Kick the Tires".

Not sure why you got the "Not Authorized" page, but go to
http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/ this should work.

Hope you have fun with it:-))
