Hi,

Firstly let me apologise if this is not the right newsgroup on which to
ask this question.

I am developing a product and I wish to incorporate something like
Microsoft's own product activation technology in order to prevent the
software from being used in an unlicenced way.

Can anyone here tell me whether MS have made the technology behind
their product activation feature available to 3rd party developers ?
If so then what is the name of the API etc ?

Thanks,

David

Microsoft product activation technology is not
available to third-party developers. It would
require a sizable investment in servers dedicated
to product activation.

ROFL! MS can afford to lose money on PA, just like they lose hundreds
on every xBox.

How many customers? Want to hire some statisticians to write
an algorithm? But realistically, sell the product with a dongle.

Right on Ghostrider, for the OP,

http://www.aladdin.com/HASP/default.asp is your best bet for one computer
per installation unless specified otherwise.

Also despite the world being full of d!ck heads, no d!ck head will buy\use
your product if they need to go through PA cause they'll dismiss you as a
d!ck head, it's called the paradox of d!ck head being. You'll need a whole
lot more than API and registry settings and dedicated servers to get PA
happening.

Hi Carey, I appreciate what you are saying, but you should understand
that regretfully,I do not expect to make the same annual sales that MS
do and so the investment in servers would be limited to just a single
box, I think.

If MS are listening then I think an API that goes some way in this
direction would be leaped on by very many ISVs.

David
