microsoft paint not opening

The micro paint/paint edit program used to open fine, now
it isn't. I've sent the error reports in to Micro. but
nothing to fix it. What is going on? A review of micro
literature suggests a similar problem with Win 98/95
operatings systems but nothing for the XP. What can I do
to open paint?
 
Might try uninstalling and re-installing.
Open the control panel, add or remove programs, on the left pane click Add/Remove
Windows Components, double-click accessories and utilities, double-click accessories,
un-tick Paint, okay out. Go back and tick Paint, you may have to have your Windows
ready. If this doesn't work, re-boot before you reinstall.

Thanks for the reply; but Windows Components (at least on
my machine) does not have Paint as a separate program.
