When my opitcal mouse cord was too short, I simply
unplugged the USB cable from the computer (A SONY VAIO
laptop), rerouted and reconnected it. The mouse no longer
works, even though I (1) replaced the two batteries (the
voltage was a bit low), (2) re-started the computer, and
(3) activated the refresh button on the unit with which
the mouse communicates (the indicator light flashes for
about 20 seconds, then is steady, the way it is supposed
to be. I also tried the mouse with another laptop and it
didn't work there either. Trying to locate the mouse on
the Control Panel's Mouse hardware list, I find "HID
compliant device" and suspect that this is the mouse. I
also tried different ports; attaching a regular serial
mouse (which works on another laptop but not on the
SONY); and updating the driver but WINDOWS XP
Professional doesn't say what is wrong with the mouse or
driver, only that it cannot update and that the device
is "working properly." I have no idea of what to do next.
Any suggestions?
