Despite having purchased a legal key number for Microsoft Office Basic 2007,
when I come to load the Microsoft Office Outlook, it won't load. I have
downloaded it from the internet but still the key is not being accepted.

If you had Office Basic installed, presumably a trial, and you purchased the
key from maybe Digital River did you not also get a download installation
File?
If so you have to uninstall the trial & reboot prior to installing the paid
version

You purchased just a key. And WHERE was that from?

You downloaded "it" (which could be the key or the software). From
WHERE did you download "it"?

So why did you just buy a key considering that the legal software would
have included one?

Office Basic is an OEM only suite and not available for purchase except with
a new computer.

From the Microsoft Office site:

Office Basic 2007
Available pre-installed for home and small businesses users with the
purchase of a new PCs.
