Hi
Someone can give me advice to share my files with PASSWORD. In my office we have 7 PC under Win XP, all in the same Workgroup (Mshome). I woud like to share my file with somebody, not with everyone. Under Win ME this was very simple
Thanks.

Greetings Doan,

XP doesn't use share-level passwords like 9x. If you are using XP Pro, you
can disable Simple File Sharing, set up user accounts and set up the share
and NTFS permissions. An example walk-through is shown here:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing

You can define a password to the Guest account. Then anyone who tries to
access your shares must enter a password. Also, you can create a compressed
folder and define a password for it. Details here.

As Eric said, XP does not support share-level passwords a la W9x.

One simple work-around is to put the semi-restricted files in a
folder with a SECRET$ sharename, then only tell your friends
about the SECRET. The trailing $ character means that that
sharename will not be readily visible to everybody.

This work-around is rather simple; do not use for real secrets
(like blueprints for W88 or internal memos from Martha Stewart).
