Microsoft introduces tabbed browsing to IE.

Just noticed this today. The new MSN Toolbar from Microsoft can create
tabs in Internet Explorer. http://toolbar.msn.com/

And IE can still get Trojans and malware installed on your computer without
you even knowing it.

Putting tabbed browsing into IE is like putting cruise control on a Model
T.

Likewise with Firefox. What's the point?

Please explain how this can happen with Firefox.

I too use Firefox, but I don't permit myself to naively believe that I am
now immune from viruses, spyware and other forms of malware. IE continues to
be targeted in part because it is used by the vast majority of Internet
surfers. As Firefox becomes more popular, more hackers wishing to cause
malicious damage will begin exploiting it's code. To the credit of the
Mozilla Foundation, they have so far been able to patch critical issues in
FF much faster that Microsoft has with IE.

Neither do I. However, by it's very nature, Firefox is INNATELY more
immune to these exploits than IE.

Lame reasoning, "the Microsoft excuse," and I'm tired of it. IE is
targeted becuase it invites it. 14 year old script kiddies find exploits
in IE. It takes dedicated security groups working overtime to find an
exploit in FF. The program is INNATELY more secure than IE. You don't
think hackers wishing to cause malicious damage aren't working on
Firefox? A script kiddie who found a Firefox exploit would be elevated to
superstar status among his peers.

I tried it, it's a lot like Firefox's built-in tab support - lousy. Thank
God for Maxthon and Tabbrowser Extensions :)

Elaich,

And I am tired of the same "lame" excuses from the FF-clan... how in
heaven's name could it happen that in the last couple of weeks FF was
mentioned in Secunia's vulnerability reports with exactly the same
problems they (secunia) reported or IE A YEAR AGO...? Didnt the devs
learn from MS' blunders? Obviously not!

Elaich, wake up! Script kiddies are nowadays not the threat you have to
afraid of. Real hackers, cackers, virus/trojan/spyware writers (and
security ignorant people) are more realistic threats than your 13 year
old neighbor!

I agree (to avoid starting *that* discussion again) that FF is safer,
but it is not as safe as you seem to want it to look like!

Regards

Dick

The main reason IE is less secure than Firefox is becuase it is directly
connected to the underlying OS. This means that if you can get it to run
your exploit, you can effect the OS immediately. This cannot be done
inherently within Firefox (though if you add the DirectX extention, the
possibility is there).

MS knows that having the browser as part of the OS makes the OS less
secure, but the initial speed gains helped them win market share quickly
(plus it is simply "there" for most users).

For me, this thing works fine. No crashes yet, and I have more control over
tabs and windows than I used to have. Maxthon (and others) have more
complete support for tabs, but the MSN version is more than adequate for my
use.

Granted, the original Tab functions in FF aren't that sophisticated. But
with a nice little extension like TabMix it provides ecerything you'll
need.
