I've had a mediacenter pc for about 18 mo. now. Was
running stand alone with dial up connection. This was
my first experince with xp until about 6 months ago.I
rebuilt an old PIII with XP home, switched to cable
broadband connection and bought a Lynksys cable modem
and broadband router. I also put a wireless g card in
the old PIII. My daughter also has a laptop running XP
home and when she's home from college, all three
computers can access the internet, no problem. This
week I ran the network wizard on all three
computers and set up a small home network. Pretty
cool! All three computers can see each other and file
sharing works fine. Printer sharing works for
printers connected to the old PIII and my daughters
laptop. However, I haven't able to share the HP psc
1610 that is connected to my mediacenter PC. In an
attempt to find out why, I've discovered some
microsoft software on my computer that I was not aware
of. I'm not sure I need or even what it does and I'm
not sure how it got there.
1. sqlservr.exe a is running prossess - I don't want
my machine to be a server (no listing in add-remove
programs but I see it in windows explorer).
2. Microsoft visual J#.net is installed - not sure if
I need it, don't know what it does. (listed in
add-remove programs but no button for remove) How do I
get rid of it?
3. MSXML 4.0 SP2 Parser and SDK is installed - don't
know what it does or if I need it - uninstalled it
today.
4. Had .NET Framework 2.0 installed - removed it today
- don't know of any program I have that uses it.
5. Have .NET Framework 1.1 installed - I know I need
that for my ATI video card.
Any help or information will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks!
