I am getting this message sent to my email three times in
the last three days.

Does anyone out there know if it is legit or some sort of
virus?

How can I tell if the message is for eal without opening
it up and possibly letting a virus into my computer?

Any help would be appriciated!

Thanks!

Microsoft never email any patches out, ever.
Treat any message, purporting to be from MS with an attachment as a definite
virus.
To check for updates use windows update

most likely it's not legit... there has been emails going around posing
as official microsoft emails and are clearly not because Norton
Antivirus etc finds virus/worms in the attachments. So DONT INSTALL
ANYTHING FROM THAT EMAIL !!! Do your windows updates from your Windows
Update button or link in the Start menu ONLY!!!! and delete that email
..

Hi Lui,

it's a virus. Microsoft never emails patches.
Probably Sobig-B or something similar. AFAIK this has been going on for
years.
