Does anyone know if Microsoft offers a competive upgrade for Microsoft
Digital Image Suite 10 from another similar program or where is the best
place to purchase Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10 for the best price.

The answer is no upgrade from anything. Not aware of any type of upgrade.
Best price I have seen is at Costco ($60.00) but probably about the same at
CompUSA, etc. etc. with the usual rebate.

I did see something on Amazon $25 and Microsoft $30 don't know how legit it
is though? Thanks Yves

There is a difference in price between:
Microsoft Digital Image 10
and
Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10
So be careful about what you select. The Suite has a higher cost and $25 to
$30 is probably not the Suite, only the photo editing software.
The Suite has two parts. Part 1 is the photo editing software and Part 2 is
the digital image library to organize your photos.
I am not a big fan of Part 2 but it is more convenient to open all the
photos in a folder if I want to edit them, than opening them in Part 1,
which can be slow to open a full folder and takes a lot of memory resources.

I think there is a better way to organize photos and search your hard drive
for photos. Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 does a better job but the easiest one
is the new picasa version 2, available for free here:
www.picasa.com
It is also decent for quick and basic photo editing. Great for a beginner.

At the present time I am using ArcSoft Photo Studio and Photo Suite 5 (Roxio)
I am getting a new computer, and was thinking of getting something different
for editing my pictures. That is why I am looking at the one from Microsoft.
The others have upgrades available but they are almost the same cost as
buying a new program. I like the arcsoft but it is kind of limited, from the
Microsoft Photo site it looks like it does a lot more.

Just downloaded and installed Picasa2, looks impressive. Now have to figure
out how it works. Thanks Yves

Microsoft Digital Image 10 is indeed very good for photo editing. You will
not regret purchasing it, particularly if you print at home and you want
templates, borders, etc. etc.
Picasa is quite different. Very good basic (nothing as extensive as Image
10) photo editing but the interface is very different. Nothing like what we
are used to for photo editing with current software. So it does, indeed,
take a little bit of time to understand how it works.
One warning about Picasa. When you see the list of folders, you can right
click on a folder and then change the "Folder definition", that is, change
the name of the folder. If you do so, the name change will take place in
Picasa but when you go back to Windows to look at folders you will see that
the name change you made in Picasa is now truncated to the first 7 to 9
characters when looking at your folders in Windows. Not a good thing! So if
you want to change the name of a folder, do it under Windows, not with
Picasa.

Thanks Yves, it is a bit different.

I do not think hat MicroSft offers any type of upgrade for anyone. I have MS
Digital Image Suite 10 and like it. I also use Photoshop and Ulead
Photoimpact. I will probably not get the Digital Image 2006 since there is no
upgrade path available. I need to purchase the whole program without any idea
that this is an upgrade from DI10. I had Digital Image 9 and only purchased
DI10 when I could get a double rebate that brought the price down to what
should be an upgrade price.

Based on the fact that there never was an upgrade offered for purchasers of
DI9 going to DI10, I don't expect that Micro$oft will offer anything for
those who actually purchased earlier versions of Digital Image suites to go
to Digital Inmage Suite 2006.

M$ seem to be rather apathetic about previous users of their products.
