In Windows XP there is no Microsoft CD Player, but I downloaded the program
files in the system32 directory, the program seems to be wrking good. Where
can I download the Windows 2000 version of CD Player?

Microsoft CD Player was for Windows 9x and ME. In Windows XP it's called
the Windows Media Player (wmplayer.exe).

Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Entertainment\Windows Media Player

To play a CD
1 With Windows Media Player started, insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2 On the Play menu, point to CD Audio, VCD or CD Audio or DVD, VCD or CD
Audio (the command varies depending on the version of Windows your computer
is running), and then click the drive that contains the CD.

Yes, it worked! Now I'm going to download the latest version of WMP 11.

I think Windows Media Player is a good problam (at least it seem so), but
it's a bit heavy. I think the next version of Windows Media Player should
have a switch between Full and Lite mode.

I have WMP 9 on my new machine. I "upgraded" to 10 on the old machine
assuming that 10 would do something (that I cannot even remember now) and it
did not do whatever it was.

I also have Media Player Classic and DivX Player. I use all three players,
depending. WMP balks on some files that the other two will play with no
problems. But, basically, DivX Player sucks. I only got it because it came
along with the codecs. I deleted some of the DivX Player files and registry
entries so it wouldn't load extra crap when run. But, like I said, it will
play some files that WMP errors out on.

Well, as I rarely listen to any mp3 files, I use Windows CD Player, it can
only play Audio CDs. However, I watch DVDs and movie files with Windows
Media Player.
