I am using the Microsoft AntiSpyware on my XP machine.

Why does Microsoft give me the following security pop-ups when I boot up --
since the pop-up says it is a MS product? Are these items OK/legit? IE 6
on Win XP seems to work even though I blocked them.

1.
Microsoft AntiSpyware has detected an Internet Explorer Bar trying to be
added. Explorer Bars are plugins for Internet Explorer that give the program
full control over Internet Explorer.

Name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
Description: Shell Doc Object and Control Library
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
Path: c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll

Advise: While this is not a known spyware threat, you might want to analyze
this program before either allowing or blocking it.

2.
Microsoft AntiSpyware has detected a Windows Shell Browser trying to be
added. A Shell Browser is a toolbar that is inserted into Window's Explorer
or Internet Explorer giving it control over your computer.

Name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
Description: Shell Browser UI Library
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation
Path: c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll

Advise: While this is not a known spyware threat, you might want to analyze
this program

Thanks for any insight!

Hello

I get these as well!!

I assumed they where to do with any toolbars you have installed in Internet
Exlporer, I have Dogpiles.

Is this correct???

Aidan

Because they (plugins) are in a "class" of software that MAY cause problems.
It's up to you to decide, I guess.

If you knew as much as you think you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

Well, I don't have Dogpiles -- I'm not sure of the specific item it's
referring to, other than shdocvw.dll and browseui.dll -- and I don't know
just what they do.

Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what I'm approving if I allow (don't
block) the item!?

Easiest way is to block it just for the session. If nothing goes wrong them
block it permanently the next boot. I've been doing this from the beginning

Yeah, that's what I've done -- supposedly I can unblock it later if desired.
Still, if "Publisher: Microsoft Corporation" is true, why does MS have a
problem
with it? Or, if false, why doesn't MS say so? Of course, if it is a MS
program,
I'd like MS to tell me exactly what it does.
