MgSO4. H2O; how do i make the '4' and the '2' smaller?

i have to type a report for my chemistry class. how do i make the '4' and the
'2' smaller as in a chemical equation? they are supposed to be smaller, just
to the right of the alphabets preceeding them. thanks
 
Select the numbers and apply Subscript formatting. You can do this using
Format | Font or with the Ctrl+= keyboard shortcut.
