Start->Control Panel->Services->Messenger->Disable Note: This has nothing to do with Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger. It just disables those annoying ads. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330904 for more information about it. You will find the directions that I used above in the "workaround" area of that link.
