I'm running Windows Messenger 4.7.2009 under Win XP Pro SP1. The machine was
last rebuilt in January. For about the last week or so, every time that
Windows Messenger logs on it keeps telling me that three of my friends have
added me to their contacts list. These are people I've had as contacts for a
few weeks or even several months. I have the choice to allow or block them
and to add them to my contacts list. I've tried all combinations of
allow/block/add/don't add, and I keep getting the prompt every time Windows
Messenger logs on. That's maybe 3-5 times each day for the last week or so.

I also have someone who has added me who I don't know and I am unable to
delete this person from my contacts list.

Also, msmsgs.exe has taken to crashing periodically, also for the last week,
I guess. The error states "The instruction at "0x77f58728" referenced memory
at "0x00c00038". The memory could not be "written"."

I also have one or more duplicate entries in my contacts list. The whole
thing has turned into a complete mess.

I tried downloading and installing the latest version but that has changed
nothing. I've been using XP Pro since it was first launched and this is the
first time I've seen anything like this. Does anyone have any ideas what
might be wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Tim.

I might add that I've now downloaded and installed V 5.0.0482 and that
doesn't seem to have helped at all. Indeed, there remains a problem that I
forgot to mention in the original post. Namely, when I try to delete a
duplicate contact, the delete option is available but when I click it I am
told that I cannot delete the contact and I get logged oof Messenger. What's
that all about?
