Sid

can anyone help, i am running windows xp professional
service pack 2 with windows messenger 4.7.3000. I use
both a network connection (broadband) and a dial up
connectionto access the internet. I have used messenger
to transfer files and pictures to other people and it
works very well, but i cannot receive any files, the
following error message is displayed; 'The transfer of
the file (file name) has been blocked because it could be
unsafe'. I have tried all the usual things, shutting down
virus software and firewall etc but no luck. Anyone have
any suggestions PLEASE????

Ok think i have solved the problem..... the easiest thing
to do is upgrade to version 5, fixed the problem straight
away.

Greetings Sid,

Windows Messenger 5 supports UPnP file transfer which Windows Messenger 4.x does not, this
probably is what solved the problem (in case you're wondering).

hi sid, thanks for posting. this is the exact problem i'm having too with a
friends computer, he also installed sp2 (a.k.a. severe problems 2) I will
try jonathan's solution however it's hard for me seeing as I dont't have
access to his computer and don't even know which version of messenger he has.
If you can, uninstall sp2 and let your computer funcion normally. I have a
feeling this might just be the beginning of your sp2 problem journey.
