If I log onto messenger and it pops up to tell me that I
have x number of messages. However there are occasions
where I do not look at these messages for various reasons.
When I then log of that user name / switch off the PC and
I boot the PC back up to the Screen name selction screen
it then has a bit under my screen name with "you have x
messages".

Does anybody know how I get rid of this wee function at
the screen name selection screen?

I hope that makes sense, let me know if it doesnt!

(Using Windows XP)

Cheers

Greetings Elliot,

To disable this feature all together (no registry changes required), download the TweakUI
powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (see on the right).

After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.
