We installed new hard drive (F) we re-installed windows
xp on it. when it boots on this version our computer is
fast. Sometimes it boots with the c drive version or not
at all how can we uninstall c version?

Hi, Anonymous.

If my guesses are correctly filling in the blanks between what you've said
and what we need to know...

Go to System Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery Settings. In the
top of this page, make sure you F: version of Windows is shown as the
Default.

Of course, that leaves the version on C: installed and taking up disk space.
To really remove it is a 2-step process that is easier to do than to
explain. Boot into WinXP on F: and...

1. In that System startup window, click the Edit button. This opens
C:\boot.ini in Notepad so that you can easily edit this Hidden, System,
Read-only file. Identify which line under [operating systems] refers to
your C: version and which to the F: version. That can be tricky because
boot.ini does not use drive LETTERS; it uses physical drive numbers,
starting with zero, and partition numbers, starting with one on each
physical drive. So, Drive C: is almost always "rdisk(0)partition(1)".
Drive F:'s numbers will depend on how many HDs you have and how they are
partitioned. In each case, the default name for the "boot folder" is
\Windows. When you're sure, delete the whole line for Drive C:, then Exit
Notepad, including saving your change.

2. Then remove the C:\Windows folder. This gets rid of the thousands of
files holding hundreds of MB (maybe a GB or two) of the WinXP operating
system. The F:\Windows folder should remain intact. You don't exactly
"uninstall" the C: version; you simply delete it.

If you hit any snag, stop and post back here, telling us what you did and
what results (or error messages) you saw. Be sure to tell us how many HDs
you have and how they are partitioned. Especially tell us which HD and
which partition is your Drive F:.
