Messaging Program behinf Firewall

Our network admins prevent usage of any messaging program that connects
to a server outside our network. So AOL, MSN, and similar programs will
not work. Is there a freeware program that I can install on one
computer inside our network such that co-workers can communicate without
using email or the telephone?
 
I started thinking something odd was going on in alt.comp.freeware
