i have been receiving two messages supposedly microsoft
saying:

i need to go to web site "porn-reomove.com" to remove porn
from my laptop (I have none on it!)

I also get a message again from microsoft saying something
about "buffer overun" a long dialogue box sayng all the
systems affected eg XP/2000 etc and to
download "microsoftpatch"

both messages recur frequently

do I ignore them

You need to run a full virus scan on your PC using current virus
definitions, as well as running ad-aware, spybot, and spywareblaster
using updated definitions for those products.
