messages using XP network

Can any one tell me how to send a message to other computers using XP
professional? There is no DOS to do this. Any other way.
I know how to use "net send" option but only with DOS. In XP there is no DOS
!!!!
 
net send works from the command prompt (start/run cmd).

Although there is no DOS, there *is* a command prompt, which looks and works
very much like DOS. You get to it by typing CMD at th Start | Run line.

Net Send works just fine in that command prompt box.

There are also several third-party alternatives that work in a window. I use
a little freeware app called NetHail
