Messages disappear from InBox after Reply

I am Using Outlook 2000 wuth Win XP Pro SP2.
I don't believe I have changed any options but suddenly,
after I have replied to an email, the original has
disappeared from my InBox and I am unable to find it
anywhere.
This only happened suddenly last night
In fact, I have just checked, and all messages which I
had previously replied to have now gone from my Inbox.
I feel it might be a viewing option but can't find any
info in Help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

When you reply to a messages its icon changes.
I would guess you set the view on your Inbox to "Sort by Icon" and that
nothing has disappeared.

Why would you feel dumb? This happens to a lot of people. What intrigues me
is how your view setting got changed in the first place. If you have any
idea how that happened, I'd love to hear it. There must be some menu option
that is misplaced so that users select it inadvertently.
