when i turn on my pc the following message
appears 'c:\windows\system32\dlldmt.exe could not load or
run as specified in registry. Remove from registry.'
Then 'msmon.exe has encountered a problem and needs to
close'
Neither seems to be having an effect on the running of
the pc so far. I did have a parasite that was removed
from system 32. How can i stop these messages
appearing / are they anything to be concerned about?

Fix the registry entry that is trying to start this virus (which you have
removed but left a few bits of junk around from)

[copied from email] best to post this on the newsgroup in case I screw up or
am wrong, then others can correct.
Here's my answer.

2 ways;
1) Run regedit, search for all entries that contain whatever that dll was
called and delete them.
2) Run msconfig, look in the startup tab for something like that dll, and
untick it.

I cant remember what the other thing was that died when you started up, that
might be a side effect or it might be part of the virus.

Warning, messing with the registry can be dangerous, dont delete stuff you
arent sure about or have not got a consensus on usenet that its the
appropriate thing to do.

background to this;
There are several parts to a virus, such as the virus itself,and the bits it
puts in the registry to start it when the computer starts, (and sometimes
also to copy it fback rom somewhere else should you delete it). What you
have sounds like you deleted the virus itself but the bit in the registry is
still trying to start it, but cant since its been deleted. And you then get
an error message from XP since it doesnt know it shouldnt be trying to run
this!

me, I'm moving to Linux!
