message pane

Can anyone tell me how to remove the message pane so when you click on the
e-mail it doesn't open up the message below. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

View menu>Layout>disable preview pane.

Customise your toolbar and add the preview button, then you can toggle back
and forth as you wish, rt click toolbar>customise.
