Message goes to outbox instead of being sent.

Was working fine, then a message was not sent. Found it in the outbox. How
do I avoid this?

If you were offline when you sent the message, this is normal. The message
would be sent during the next send/receive. What sort of internet connection
do you have?

I have a DSL connection. Had sent emails earlier in the day with no problem.
Have been adjusting some things to suit me since I am used to OE and am new
to XP. Am wondering if I changed something I shouldn't have. As far as I
know, I was online when I wrote the emails. Thanks.

Hi, CarolnWbg;

I've done some experimenting since my last post, and the only way I could
get my copy of Outlook to drop a message into the Outbox without popping up a
warning was when Outlook was offline. Simply having the connection
unavailable was not enough, so my question about your connection type was
unnecessary. You can tell if Outlook is offline by looking at the Outlook
icon in the notification area of your Taskbar. A white x in a red square will
cover the lower left quadrant of that icon. That same icon shows in the
Status Bar of your main Outlook window when Outlook is offline. Taking
Outlook offline is something that you have to select at File> Work Offline or
at least, I couldn't find a way where it would be done automatically.

The purpose of the Outbox is to hold messages that can't be sent
immediately. Messages that haven't been opened while they are in the Outbox
are sent automatically during the next send/receive. (If you open one, and
still want to send it, click "send" again.) You can find your send/receive
settings at: Tools> Send/Receive> Send Receive Settings> Define Send/Receive
Groups.

I hope this helps.
IanRoy.

Thanks for your effort. I have just thrown up my hands and gone back to
Outlook Express where everything is working just fine. Have tried Outlook
several times and always seem to have a problem. I don't want to use
send/receive to send a message from the Outbox because that overrides my
MailWasher program and allows emails to come into the Inbox that I have not
had a chance to inspect. Thanks, again. Will just stick with Express.

Hi, CarolnWbg;
I have a correction to my last post.
Tools> Options> Mail Setup
Unchecking "Send immediately when connected" will cause Outlook to use the
Outbox instead of sending immediately (I'm embarrassed), even when working
online. So check that box, and don't use automatic send/receive. That should
give you the behavior you wish, if you want to try Outlook again.
Regards;
IanRoy.
