In XP Pro Version 2002, how do I change the background color of the
message box? (The stark white background makes it difficult to read
the text).

In the "Message Box" item, "Color1" and "Color2" are 'greyed-out' so I
can't choose a different color.

Interesting. Obviously you are there.

In Advanced Appearance, click on the message box body first............

Change that to what you want it.

As far as the message body, mine is a light gray, but that is also my
system background color.

I did click on the message box body first but COLOR1 and COLOR2 are
still un-selectable.
