message at start up on my user icons

I keep getting a message reading "1 unread mail
message..."

When I check my e-mail, there are no messages or mail
items to be read. How do I get rid of this?

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its repair mail count feature or
use it to turn the mail count off completely.

Or edit the registry and delete the mail accounts you don't want:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
